About the Artist
After completing her BA (Hons) in Fine Art at Birmingham Institute of Art and Design in 2006, Roxanne moved into the Makers Dozen Studios in Wolverhampton in 2008 where she began her Fine Art business. Having being at the Makers Dozen for 11 years Roxanne moved studios in October 2019 and is now situated at the old church at Gailey Island near Stafford. Roxanne has sold her work both nationally and internationally and has an extensive portfolio of original work including many commissions.
Having come from an artistic background and growing up within the countryside, as a child, Roxanne was immersed in art and developed a long life passion for horses. She also developed an enthusiasm for history through visiting historic sights with her father, experiencing varied re-enactments and absorbing the atmosphere. She enjoyed having the freedom to explore and develop her mind and broaden her interests. These childhood experiences remain with her to this day and Roxanne's love of horses and interest in history, and in particular her fascination and involvement with living history, have become part of her life and are now woven into her artwork.
With a specific interest in the medieval period, the English Civil War and WW1, Roxanne's work is inspired by battle scenes, medieval jousts, period costume and historic buildings and landscapes. These, amongst other themes, are interpreted in her own unique artistic style.
Roxanne not only produces careful, detailed studies but also uses her imagination to create much looser artworks filled with dramatic atmosphere. She works in a variety of media including oil, watercolour, pen, pencil, charcoal and pastel.
Roxanne also undertakes animal portraits both in pencil and paint and is always willing to take on other subjects as commissions. Please see 'Gallery' for examples and 'Commission prices and details' for further information.
